OUR LINES OF ACTION
Based on the love, respect, and responsibility we have for nature and people, we have crafted our work around three fundamental concepts as our lines of action…
Promote the effective conservation of private land using legal tools that permit for its long term protection, while also prioritizing sustainable practices by local communities.
Through impactful, outdoor educational experiences, we foster in children throughout Chile the responsibility to conserve our natural heritage.
Promote research and restoration of the territory through alliances with universities and organizations and with active participation from the community.

COME DISCOVER THIS MARVELOUS LANDSCAPE AND SHARE OUR INTEREST IN CONSERVING IT
We are located in the Chillán river valley, 54 kilometers from the city of Chillán, specifically in the Los Pellines valley. Here, in the heart of the Biological Corridor, we share our headquarters and workspaces with the Los Pellines Outdoor Education Center due to the close alliance and common goals of the organizations.
COLLABORATIVE NETWORK
As a way to promote and strengthen the development of conservation projects in the area, we strive to generate a broad network of collaboration and cooperation among private landowners and public and private organizations connected to the area. We invite you to take a look at these projects that cover a variety of disciplines, each of which supports in its own way the value and protection of this important ecosystem.
THE TERRITORY
BIOLOGICAL CORRIDOR NEVADOS DE CHILLÁN – LAGUNA DEL LAJA
In Chile’s central zone, among the Andes mountain range, you can find this especially important area, unique for its geographic and biologic qualities created by the transition between the northern, mediterranean climate, and the rainy, temperate climate to the south. These conditions are only found in the regions of Ñuble and Biobío, within the Biological Corridor Nevados de Chillán – Laguna del Laja. This 565,807 acre stretch is notable for its biodiversity and presence of many native and endemic species.
In 2011, thanks to the work of various organizations involved in the territory and its great global importance, this zone was declared a World Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO.
17% OFFICIALLY PROTECTED. Within the limits of the Corridor there are 2 National Reserves, 1 National Park and 1 Nature Sanctuary. These protected areas represent only 17% of the total surface area. The remaining 78% are held in private lands and a small percent (4%) in municipal lands. These unprotected areas are designated for different uses, principally for real estate, agriculture, forestry, energy and tourism.
HABITAT OF AN EMBLEMATIC SPECIES. Proof of its unique character, the corredor is home to the last, northernmost population of huemuls (Hippocamelus bisulcus) in Chile, separated by more than 400 kilometers from the other populations of this species. It is estimated that in the entire zone of Nevados de Chillán there remain only 84 individuals of this native deer species, which has been classified as critically endangered by the IUCN.
LEGAL RESTRICTION OF PROJECTS. The Biological Corridor is officially protected under the System of Evaluation of Environmental Impact (SEIA). Activities carried out in the area must pass through a process of evaluation in which they are approved according to their environmental coherence. However, recently there has been a notable increase in activities that are potentially harmful to the ecosystem such as the extraction of native forest, introduction of monoculture and grazing animals as well as a significant expansion of unplanned parcelization and real estate development.
As a foundation Conserva Tu Bosque looks to coordinate different conservation initiatives, both public and private, in the Biological Corridor with the goal of unifying forces and advancing towards the effective conservation of the zone.
Encouraging and advising more land owners to develop sustainability and conservation projects, we hope to generate a large, collaborative network where environmental education and scientific studies are the principal attractions of the territory.
